Jean's Talk - Summary:
Sir John Bellew second baronet, d. 1734, he represents the links between both Co Louth & Co Galway. He was married twice.
1. Patrick the eldest born 1686. He joined the French army at 18 and in 1713 married Mary Burke eldest daughter of Richard Earl of Clanricarde. She died the following year.
2. Richard Bellew born 1702 who died in the late 1880s and is buried at Moylough Co. Galway. He married Mary O’ Brien daughter of Turloch O’Brien a great-grandson of Morough O’Brien 1st Earl of Thomond among their sons was John Bellew of Springfield Lawn Co. Galway who married Julia Phelan daughter of John Phelan of Harold’s Cross Dublin. She died 1812 and John was buried by his cuprous desire in the same grave as his father March 1821.
3. Christopher killed in a dual Oct 17 1712 at Oranmore. On Oct 8 he left Castle Bellew for Galway to deliver papers to Mrs Browne his aunt. In the evening he went with John Browne ( her son ) to Mammons coffee house where Robert Hamilton was playing Billiards. Christopher leaned carelessly at the end of one cushion and another gentleman did likewise at the other end. Christopher would not move when asked. The result was the dual where he was killed.
4. Clare who married first to Edward Fitzgerald of Kildonan Co. Kildare leaving descendants and second to Hyacinth Chevers St. Brendan’s Galway.
5. Sir Edward Bellew 3rd Bt who married Eleanor Moore daughter of Michael Moore of Drogheda in 1728 and he died October 1741 in Flanders leaving with other children
Michael a priest
Sir John Bellew 4th Bt born 1728 and died unmarried November 2 1750
Sir Patrick Bellew 5th Bt married Mary Hore daughter and co-heiress of Mathew Hore of Shandon Co. Waterford.
I have to check some of the details with Jean.
Jean also spoke about the year 1784 when lands in Co Galway were formally purchased by the family there from the Barmeath branch. The income from that sale was used to purchase land locally to Barmeath. Seamus mentioned that this would have been the approximate when his family transferred from Lismoyle near Castle Bellew to Banogues near Castleblakeney.

Jean says avoid using Eircode or Google Maps for Rokeby Hall, as you'll end up at a back entrance and closed gate. Follow the directions on Jean & Jeff's website, just above, or see below for an 'old-fashioned' map!
If you are coming off the M1 motorway, best to take the Dunleer exit and come that way. Rokeby is just up the road from Barmeath. The entrance is opposite Carrickbaggott.
