Faithlegg, Co Waterford Heraldry
The lands around Faithlegg were owned by the Aylward family until they were dispossed by Cromwell in 1654 and the property was granted to the Bolton family. Cornelius Bolton built the present house in 1783. However it was sold to Nicholas Mahon Power in 1819. The dowry from his marriage to Margaret Mahon, a Dublin heiress enabled the purchase. Their son, Patrick Joseph Power and his wife, Lady Olivia Nugent came to live at Faithlegg. Samuel Roberts was commissioned to altar and enlarge the house. This is reflected by the impaled arms of Power (De la Poer) and Nugent in pediment both on the front and back of the house. The house is now an FBD (Insurance) Hotel. The History of FBD (50 years) is currently being written and is due for publication later in the year.
