Between December 2012 and April 2014 some 200 volunteers collected over 10,000 field names from all over County Louth. The book presents the project’s findings in a 400 page full colour publication. The book opens with a background to the project and a history of Louth’s fieldscapes. The project findings are presented in nine thematic chapters exploring field names connected with farming, the landscape, antiquities, folklore, rural industry and wildlife, as well as a discussion of Irish-language field names and rundale farming. The project findings are interspersed with diverse perspectives on Louth’s field names and landscape from heritage experts like Eanna Ní Lamhna as well as members of Louth’s farming community.

The Louth Field Names Project commenced in early 2012 under the auspices of the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society, County Louth I.F.A. and the County Louth Library Service. It was funded mainly by Louth Leader along with some matching funding from generous sponsors. The training phase of the project was led by Ms Grace McCullen, Dr Eve Campbell was appointed co-ordinator in September 2013.

The book costs €20
